Nashville, Tenn.-based Bridgestone Americas Inc. — the U.S. subsidiary of Tokyo-based tire and rubber company Bridgestone Corp. — will invest $1.2 billion to construct a 1.5-million-square-foot off-road radial tire (ORR) manufacturing facility in Aiken County, S.C.; and to add 474,000 square feet to its existing passenger (PSR) and light truck (LTR) tire plant in Aiken County. According to the S.C. Department of Commerce, the investment represents the largest single initial capital investment by a company in the state and will include the addition of more than 850 full-time and contractor positions to Bridgestone Americas' workforce. The new facility will manufacture large and ultra-large ORR tires, which previously were produced exclusively at Bridgestone's plants in Japan.
